Impress Battery Initialization Problems

Hi Folks,

Got a bunch of NNTN6263A Impress batteries, and went through the
initialization process. All seemed well, but when I put them into
the XTS2500's, I could not get a battery status. All the batteries
went through the entire initialization process with no interruptions.

I plugged in one of the 'already initialized' batteries back into the
charger, and it went to the initialization mode again.

Any clue why it didn't 'take' the first time?

Impres batteries are quirky, based on my experience with them. If you've followed the procedure, which is to put the battery in the charger, the red light comes on, then remove the battery for a second or two and put it back and then the yellow light comes on, then the battery should discharge and then fully charge. If you just leave the battery in there with the red light on from the beginning you won't get a proper Impres charge.

Same thing applies when the battery is on the radio. At times the readout of condition won't work right and then it will work okay. I'm talking about XTS setups and TRBOs.

As I said, they're quirky and you have to play with the radio to get them to display their information.

I've had the same problems. I just bought 2 new Impress batteries. The first one I initialized in my Impres charger and I get no data message. So the second battery I had my friend initialize it in his charger with the display. Neither battery will show on my XTS5000. Haven't figured out yet how to get them to give me data.

I don't know if this your problem, but when I put an Impress battery in my 5000, & immediately turn on the radio & go to the battery icon in the menu, it says data not available. However, if I wait 30 seconds after turning on the radio, I have no problem. Don't know if this your problem though. GARY N4KVE

That sounded too easy. I tried waiting and still no BATT data. Oh well!

Thanks

We have batteries turned in with no battery display. When questioning the user it turns out that they never allow the battery to fully charge. If you pull out the radio to go on a call, sooner or later the battery status will go away since the battery charge is not known anymore.

In all cases so far, allowing a full orange cycle to complete has restored the display.

Same problem here with some of our new XTS5000 Impress batts.

My fix was that right after the radios booted up I had to tx briefly, otherwise the 'RatedCap' field and the 'Rem.Cap' field were blank or displaying incorrect data.

Have you tried running them through the inpres Data Reader, our shop finds sometimes that helps them regain some memory.
