Our local OEM is exploring the use of an unused 33mHZ frequency to page out their members. Most of the OEM members have amatuer licenses and utilize UHF for their primary communications.
They are looking for an inexpensive way for group paging in the event of their services are required for a disater or other emergency.

I currently have our FD old 100 watt lowband base and antenna available for use. Our FD and EMS switched to UHF 10 years ago but left the old license active. The plan is to distribute the old minitor 2 pagers on 33.04 to the OEM people and use a m1225 radio as a receiver for the lowband base to crosband tones and dispatch information only via our dispatch center on a UHF (radio link quic call 2) on a public safety channel.

There is a built in phone line terminal on the GE base. Is there a simple way to use the 16 pin plug on the m1225 and hard wire to the GE or do I need a Zetron repeater crossband system like I used when we did our switch over 10 years ago

You could always find a UHF receiver for the MASTR II and turn it into a repeater. It could be from a base station, a mobile, or a satellite receiver, they are all the same. Pretty easy to do, there are a couple of jumpers to wire on the 10 volt regulator card so the receiver doesn't get turned off when the transmitter is transmitting. Get a GE repeat control card and a repeat audio card, plug those into their proper slots in the card cage, tune it up and you will be good to go. The MASTR II is an excellent platform even if it is using 30, well almost 40 year old technology. Parts are plentiful and cheap too.

Mark - Yes, you may be able to McGuiver the 1225 rcvr to drive the Mastr II transmitter. Someone will have to use the carrier det of the 1225 to apply PTT to the Mastr II, and match up the det audio to the exciter input so it has linear response. Otherwise, the tones and voice will come out bad. Got anyone in the area capable of doing that?

I setup a crossband maxtrac repeater to check coverage and at 65 watts the system worked well but I would still like the extra power for a few fringe areas.
I have someone that is able to help me with the GE base. I also found a 2 100watt mobiles; a Midlans 110watt XTR and a GE Delta.
I have used the Midlands for the same setup before (Matxtrac to XTR) for a pager uhf 450 to 460 2 watt in building low power pager extender.

Playing with the GE mic plug and a Maxtrac allowed me to transmit with fair audio quality.

The difference between 65w and 100w is only a couple db. You won't notice it in real life especially at 33mhz. Good ground wave component creeps around hills well, but gets clobbered by man-made noise sources. 2db get lost in the noise. You need 250w, or multiple transmitter sites. You can gain the 2db in good pager maintenance paying attention to the antenna coupling.

Using a 40 watt UHF m1225 and Maxtrac with a 20 amp power supply a 3 db gain UHF omni and a folded dipole low abnd antenna. The cross band words great.
