Hi all,
I have a 3k that when it gets bumped powers off then comes right back on. Ive tried cleaning the contacts and it hasnt helped. I think it may be this particular battery, as none of my others do this, but this is my best battery that this is happening to.
Thanks

Considering the only moving part in the power connection is in the battery, eliminate the battery. Is the suspect a non-Motorola?

Is the battery in question an after market battery? From what you have said it is the battery, unless you have just put the others that do work on for a short time. I would charge up two or three of your batteries (including the one that may be bad) and test with each one. Try a dead key till you time it out (into a dummy load of course) and see if one is any better than the others. If it is the battery then I would guess it is a problem that would be easy to duplicate by trying to move the battery a bit, squeeze the battery, or giving your radio a good "slap test" in the palm of your hand. If it's the battery toss it and get a new one.
If it's not the battery then the battery terminals should be checked, make sure they are not pitted (I see a lot of units that have been in the sand get pitted). I would replace the terminals if you see any sign of wear.

If it's an aftermarket battery, and specifically a W&W (Wiggly & Wobbly), there have been two examples of exactly this malady with their XTS batteries in my possession. The errant W&W battery number causing me to spend money to replace them is WWH-NTN8299AS Ni-MH. No more of those for me.
Problem is, sending them the battery and waiting for an evaluation on their part, and the uncertainty of getting a replacement based on some fault they "may" or "may not" own up to is not an option in critical mission usage. I elected to bite the bullet and replace them with genuine MotherMoto batts at further expense, delayed only by drive time to a local Flying Bat dealer. Shoulda done that in the first place. Hope your mileage varies from my experience.

Yeah. Its an aftermarket, but not a W&W. I guess Ill just have to bite the bullet and get a genuine /\/\, which is what I usually run. I was running short on cash, and the batteryzone batteries didnt seem too bad in the past. Once I get my moto battery I might send it back and see what happens. Until then Ill just deal with it. Most of the other batteries are shot...but hey, they were free so I cant complain too much

We've had similar problems with a dozen or so 5000's at work with OEM batteries. I know you've said you've cleaned your contacts, but take a close look at them and make sure they are not pitted like this:
I know there is a FSB out about this issue.

One is pitted just a little bit. How hard are they to replace? What is the part number?

I've never replaced them as all our radios are IS and get sent out, so I don't know the degree of difficulty. 0985973B04 is the part number for the battery contacts for a xts5000 (thanks to akardam!). I don't have a service manual for a 3000 so I don't know if that part would work for your radio.

That indent is not a pit...I have that same notch on both of my XTS radios as well.
Appears to be part of some MFG. issue with the blanks that are used/punched.

After thinking about this issue, the reason these are showing up on so many radios...such as yours and mine, could be caused by the reaction of teh battery contac metal type interacting with the actual battery contacts due to dissimilar metals of the two....IE: Brass against bronze, or copper Etc...
There could be galvanic corrosion taking place.

Well, I got a /\/\oto original battery, and it hasent done it once. I also got a new set of contacts that arent pitted, that will be going on it here soon.
