Have a Gold Elite system with a WIN2000 server. When I try to open either elite.exe or elite_a.exe I get the error that the application cant initialize and that it has terminated. Forgot the hex code error but its odd that its only those 2 files. I can use CDM and ADM just fine as well as the upload utility. I tried to reinstall as well as remove and do a full install but to no avail. Now I am thinking there could be some corruption of the files that I have (including the original files from the setup disk) or something more deep rooted in WIN2000 perhaps in the registry.

I had hoped that a full removal would have deregistered all the files and cleaned up the registry for the new full install which would then do a proper registration of the files.

I am not looking forward to going into REGEDIT and trying to weed out any remnants and try another full install. Perhaps its a common file that WIN2000 uses that is the culprit and I may need to refresh WIN2000. Of course getting my hands on that is next to impossible now since I have no clue where that CD is nor do I know all the parameters needed to get it back up running as an elite server.

Has anyone else had issues where all of a sudden they no longer can run certain elite files?

I have experienced something similar...but that was when I was trying to run a certain version of Gold Elite on a machine that ran an OS that was newer than it could support. (i.e. version 8.xx.xx meant for Win2000 on an XP SP3 machine). If this is not the case and the program just wouldn't load one day.....I would start to think about Windows corruption...especially if re-installing the Elite software didnt fix it.

Another thought.....hopefully this host computer is not connected to the internet. Although Win2000 is no longer supported, if it does have internet access, there may have been some sort of update downloaded and installed....which would now make the OS incompatible with Elite. Motorola engineered these things to be very very very fussy about matching OS Service Packs...and begged end users to put all machines on a closed LAN to avoid any Microsoft Update foolishness.

Your last option....depending on what vintage Elite you have....might allow you to convert over to Windows XP. Most of the later Win2000 versions supported XP SP 1 as well. I have (on numerous occasions now) gotton it to work without any problems on XP SP2. DO NOT....I REPEAT.....DO NOT attempt to run older Elite on XP SP3! There are way too many differences in memory addressing and you will end up with more headaches than a Centracom is ever worth. Also, you dont need to configure your Win2000 Server as a "server" if you convert over to WinXP. Simply enable file sharing for the appropriate Elite Config folders on the new XP machine....and point your "client" OP positions at that path......BOOM...DONE DEAL.
