XTL / XTS Firmware upgrade question

I just received a firmware refresh for our XTL & XTS radios. Before I proceed to apply this to our radios, when I update the radio which includes new UCM firmware will it retain the existing encryption keys or will the keys need to be reloaded?
Thanks in advance for you help

You will need to reload them.

You will need to reload keys, and.......if your xtl's/xts's are fw 8.xx.xx or less, they will need bumped to 8.xx.xx first, before flashing to 14.xx.xx. Just FYI.

Use a serial cable. Have upgraded several radios with FW 4-6 with serial no problem but failed repeatedly with USB

I had the same problem with XTL2500 going from 12.xx to 14.whatever it is now with the USB cable. Ended up with the serial cable on there and it took fine then....

I did about 500 XTS5000s going from the problem 8 version to a 9 version using the USB cable with no failures. Never used a serial cable on a portable but on a mobile it takes over 20 min. The XTS USB is less than 3 min.

Maybe it's my horrible luck, but whenever I flash an XTL, through the O5 head, I takes multiple attempts. I stood in the hot sun last Thursday afternoon agonizing over two radios. Doing the same on a remote mount through the TIB is always a one shot success. I always use Serial but have tries USB and got similar results. Could it be my portable computer or is this normal?
