Swapping RF Boards or S-Records Questions

I have here two XTS3000's, a model 2 and a model 3. Would it be possible to place the M2's RF board in the M3 (different band splits)?
I've been reading up on related posts, and I gather that it is possible to put the M3 keyboard on the M2, but it would require forcing an S-Record (what -exactly is an s-record, by the way?) through the MTSX Lab version of CPS (?) which I gather is highly illegal. I prefer the former, but I am open to exploring other options.

Just trying to get a feel for what's involved here.

Thanks.

No, swapping the RF boards won't do any good, the controllers will still tell the radio they're the respective bandsplits.

Lemme make sure I understand this... you have a XTS3k M2 in one band (we'll call this Radio 1), and a XTS3k M3 in another band (Radio 2), and you want to make the M2 into a M3 and vice versa?

Assuming I've got it right, the most straightforward method would be to find a M3 SRecord in the appropriate band and with the desired flashcode for Radio 1, and a M2 ditto for Radio 2, and force them in, then swap the M2 and M3 cases and keypads between radios. Protip: Write down your tuning values as they currently are before you go stuffing SRecords, or be prepared to retune.

Akardam, yes. What exactly is an SRecord anyway? So, hypothetically, lets say I have two model 2 XTS3k's and I wanted to swap RF boards (of course this would be pointless since there would be nothing gained from doing this), would I need to swap the Srecords as well? How does one swap SRecords?

Thanks for the replies.
