Is the Motorola VXR-7000 a good repeater for private carrier multi-user use?

I have several in service, and one of them is a multi-user use machine, the only problem i have ever had with them is the internal power supplies were kinda weak and would crap out after about 2 years. Run it off a good Astron power supply attached to the DC terminals on the back of the repeater and your in Business. Just remember to program the repeater to stay on high power and to not go to low power when its using the dc input terminals.

The VXR-9000 appears to have better RX/TX specs. I do not have any direct experience with either.

we've had a VXR7000 VHF low split (136-150) in service since October 2002. It has survived two lightning strikes, first one blew out a diode on the RX board front end (easy repair, but a new RX board was only $113 from Vertex), second one took out the PA module (a $90 part), the second strike literally blew the antenna apart. It has had thousands of hours of use in a ham (read LONG TX PERIODS) duty and is still going strong. No problems with the power supply. We do use an external controller (Pacific Research RI-300) and it was a snap to interface to the radio via the DB25 accessory connector. No internal modifications or taps were needed. This is a very capable desktop repeater that has some of the best TX audio I've ever heard. The carrier is DEAD QUIET and on frequency. I think it outclasses every R1225 and GR wonder box by far, has better specifications, and is easy to interface with external controllers. And the later version of programming software is Windows based which makes life easier.
