I have been told there is no PSM for VHF PR1500. is this a true statement? I spoke to /\/\ and they said the PSM for the HT1000 will not work on the PR1500 as said in old threads on here.
So what I'm looking for is a PSM for the PR1500 for VHF coverage. Is there a model out there that will work with it?
Thanks!!!!!!

Historically Motorola has not made PS mics for VHF. Some of their new spec sheets do mention one but I haven't actually seen one. I've used VHF PS setups on Sabers with a stubby TNC VHF antenna I got from Tessco and it seemed to work fine. I've never gotten an explanation from anyone as to why Motorola had this aversion to VHF PS mic setups but it might have to do with a resonant feedline caused by the coax in the mic cable up to the mic unit. The reason that the PS mic cables are straight and not coiled is because the coax/RF feedline is inside the cable and if you coil the cable the feedline turns into one big inductor. If I had a PR1500 PS mic I'd just get a short VHF antenna for the speaker/mic and see how it works.

I have also use a VHF stubby with a PSM on Sabers,HT1000's, and XTS3000/5000 both without problem. That being said. Motorola does not recommend it, I have seen it done numerous times in Police use on VHF systems that are very well covered and repeated. My advise get a PR 1500 PSM and a stubby and try it. If it works then fine. If not. back to the antenna on the radio.

Accessories for the PR1500 on the Motorola website look to me as if they're standard XTS style units, but the sheet doesn't show a PS speaker/mic for the PR1500.

Not to get too stay here...but do you really want a VHF antenna hanging off of your lapel or middle of your shirt?
We had a couple of guys at the PD who tried that...always got in the way and looked really goofy and was clumbsy. Needless to say, they didn't use them after two weeks.
VHF radios also tend to put out up to 6 watts of power depending on model, 5 watts, if not 4 is what Moto would like to keep as the max for a transmit antenna next to your head.

I always used a VHF stubby that wasnt much taller than a UHF stubby. It was never a problem.
