Have heard a few people making comments that after their XTL5000 mobiles with the 05 control heads had the
rebanding done to them, that they started having the radio suddenly shut off with no warning. They could be
in the middle of a transmission or just in the receive mode. It just shuts down. Sort of sounds like when the
radios first came out with the 05 heads, they had a similar problem. I know a bunch of them up in Alaska had
this problem back in I think it was 2006.

Anyone having this problem and Motorola saying they will replace the heads? Not a good position to be in if
the police and fire radios are going to drop dead while your using them. Not sure I would let my radios be
rebanded if this is going to be an issue. Maybe we should hold off until the problem is resolved?

I have seen some chatter on some lists but nothing official, as in the way of a FSB or SRN, stating that the HLN1463 heads as referenced in this thread might have to be replaced when the radio is being flashed to current firmware (as would happen during rebanding).

That having been said, I have personally rebanded many hundreds of XTL5000's with O5 heads using firmware ranging from R12 to R14, and only encountered a few, perhaps a dozen or so, radios that had issues, of which all but a few were recoverable.

Identifying whether a radio has the original O5 part number or the newer O5 part number would probably be a good first step, and test-bedding a few shelf-stock or spares of either/or/both hardware revisions, in dash and remote mouht, should give you a much better idea how the rebanding process might affect your fleet.

I remember that thread and will have to inquire as to the model and age of the problem children that have
cropped up. They very well could be of the older versions and as such, I can understand what is going on.
