Hi All, new here so hope I can contribute a bit.
I've a number of full-keypad GP1200's and similar with faulty LCD's, these range from a few lines to nearly the whole display missing. I'm not sure if all the displays are genuinely faulty or it's an LCD driver problem. Any one know a fix?
Woody.

If the radios have a ribbon cable and connector from the display to the board then you could try reseating the connector. It seems to be a common problem in these kinds of radios.

Thanks for the reply Tom, but unfortunately it's not as simple as that. Ribbons are intact and seated correctly etc.

Well known problem for the Jedi portables. Motorola had some quality issues.

Yeah you're not wrong. Just trying to find out if they're fixable or not.

t´s the contact tape from the pcb to the LCD glass substrate. You can´t fix it.
Becker,Blaupunkt,Sharp... all had such problems with LCD and contact tape.

This was my suspicion that the fault is where the ribbon contacts the glass of the LCD. I'm not sure if it's the actual contact as I've applied pressure with an insulated tool and that offers no improvements. I'm guessing the ribbon is very fragile and there's tiny fractures in the conductors.
It's a right pain anyway!
