MTR2000 low power alarm

We have a single site MTR2000 VHF repeater with battery backup and gasoline generator that is in an unmanned building. We need to have the radio send a tone over the air to indicate a loss of power at the site. The local radio shop wants to sell and install a 3rd party announcing system to accomplish this ($$$). Isn't there simply a setting on the radio that can be turned on through programming or jumpers that would accomplish the same thing?
Thanks,
Mike

Nope. Not really. Not a super versatile radio. It can send alarm tone over the air, but you won't know which alarm state generated the alarm - just that an alarm has occurred. It has an AC fail alarm, but that quits as soon as the generator kicks in. So, an external annunciator is the best way. Your only option is to Tom Edison what you want just like we had to in the olden days. Tie the doors to an entry alarm that tapped out a code we could hear over the air. Shore power AC fail tapped out a different code. Generator running tapped another code. It meant I had to remember what dit dit dit meant as opposed to dit dit - dit dit. That's why folks have chosen to use programmable voice storage annunciators so that when the young lady in dispatch calls to tell you "the radio says AC fail, generator running once a minute", everybody knows what it means.

Thank you very much for the great answer (not the one I was wanting) but still a great answer. I appreciate it.
