Jedi UHF MTVA question.

I read on an older post here that a UHF Jedi should be set to low power [2 watts] for use in a UHF Jedi MTVA to put out the rated 25 watts. Would having the Jedi putting out 4 watts overdrive or damage the amp? What power setting should be used to work correctly? 2 or 4 watts? Pt # NTN 1324A, option Q149AA. Also there doesn't seem to be a 403-470, or 450 512 mhz unit. Just 1 UHF controller/amp. Would this unit work well for 440-470 coverage? Thanks. GARY N4KVE

Good chance you'll be overdriving the amp with 4 watts, magical smoke will come about eventually.

Thanks. That's actually the post I was referring to. Just wondering if anyone could confirm this. I mean how many cop radios are going to have a switch for hi/low power, & does anyone think a cop would remember to set his radio to low power when he inserts his radio into the MTVA? It's also strange that the post says to use 800, & 900 mhz on hi power, but VHF, & UHF on low power? This is why I asked. Seems strange. GARY N4KVE

When the radio is put into the MTVA, it *should* switch to low power automatically, I believe... There are diodes in the mtva that go across the mode select lines on the jedi accessory connector, and there's a specific combination of diodes that tell the radio, "Hey, you're in an MTVA!" and I believe part of the MTVA mode is to turn down power!

An easy way to confirm would be to terminate the input/output of the amp, and hook the rf output of the cradle to a wattmeter+dummy load or service monitor, and see what the output level is from the cradle.

I would bet that the mode select options may vary depending on the control unit used.. With the barefoot control unit, you might want high power available on the radio.

I looked over the MTVA installation manual ( 68P81075C90-A ) and the MTVA Users Guide ( 68P81075C85-A )
and am not able to confirm this. The MTS2000 CPS does have a check box to turn on the display back light when
inserted in the MTVA but that is all I could find. Not sure, but I think the channel personality would have to have
the low power option checked and that low power level would have to be set up in the tuner app.
