Kenwood Programming Information

Hello All!
I am looking into maybe purchasing some Kenwood Mobiles and Portables.
I am partial to Motorola, but with there discontinuing of Low Band equipment and the price of there equipment. I am forced to look at alternatives here.
The great thing with Kenwood is they use the same software for several different radios, unlike Motorola
I am looking at other comparable equipment and Kenwood matches Motorola fairly well.
What I am wanting to know is.
Most Motorola radios require a rib box, software and cable for programming. And the newer radios are ribless
I am just curious if Kenwood is the same way. Will I need a special rib box for there radios
Please let me know, because I am familiar with how Motorola works and wanting to know more about Kenwood as well.
Also one more question while I am thinking about it.
I also have some GE MPI II portables. Wanted to see what I would need to program these as well
Please advise
Thanks
David
