Hi
I haven't played with Maxtrac's much and understand the only way to know if it is type 2 trunking is to read it.
If a Maxtrac is listed as having Privacy Plus,Smartnet or Smartzone, would that indicated it will do type 2 trunking ?

Privacy Plus would be Type 1, Smartnet, or Smartzone would be type 2, although I never heard of a Maxtrac that was Smartzone. In the model # printed on the ser# decal, a B3, B5, or B7 would be type 1, but a F3, F5, or F7 would be type 2. I've seen quite a few type 1 Maxtracs, but never a type 2. They are rare, like 438-470 Spectras. Hope this helps. GARY N4KVE

I used to work on a bunch of Maxtracs for a Type II system, they were B7 models, so I don't think you could go by that.

A Smartnet Maxtrac should be a "C" 5, 6, or 7. To convert a B7 you need the correct firmware and a codeplug to load into the radio.

I'm basing my statement by the Maxtrac in the lobby of BSO headquarters was a "F7" & a type 2 system. GARY N4KVE
