Hello,

I've manage to pick up a Kenwood TKR-750 Repeater and Duplexer that I'm getting tomorrow at a crazy cheap price.

I've thought about doing 3 things with it and want your suggestions.

Keep it myself and maybe put it on Ham??????

or

Let the fire department that I belong too use it for their own radio communications

or

Sell it for profit. ( How much ya think could get out of it )

I know this is a Motorola forum but there are tons of guys in here that know what their talking about and I figure I would ask for your knowledge.

So what would it take to get it on the air?

Well, not to sound like a wet blanket, but if you change the frequencies on the repeater you will need to retune the duplexer, which is easier said than done. You will need a tracking generator and a spectrum analyzer for starters, which are not something found very frequently at hamfests or on ebay.

I would recommend you take the equipment to your local MSS or Kenwood Authorized Service Center and get an estimate on retuning the duplexer. Once you know that, it will be easier to make the call on whether to keep, donate, or sell.

Keep this in mind...

The Kenwood TKR-750 came in a couple of flavors...

TKR-750 was 150-174 or something like that
TKR-750K2 was 136-150 and suited for amateur use.

I just recently sold a "new old stock" unit that had 1 week runtime on it for $700. But it was the K2 split version.
