I have a MTX 838 UHF B-7 Trunking radio,i programed a codeplug from a MTX 838 B-7 800MHz ,by mistake.I have labtools,and the old code plug from the UHF radio,but my Labtool says it to old when i try to read it ,my thinking was if i could read the UHF codeplug with Lab,and re=program the radio it might fix it.Any ideas before i pay $275.00 for a new board?

Use the read/write without pack/unpack option.(TCMS menu) Or an archive, accessible via the same menu options. This is not the same as the standard get/save codeplug system. Play around with it, and you'll get it. It's a bit confusing and not well documented, but it certainly works once you figure it out.

Thanks for your reply,could you give me a few more details,as you said it gets confusing.I can't read the codeplug from the archive with lab ,its to new.Since writng the radio with the 800MHz c/p it has change the model and serial number as well.Any more help would be great.Thanks again.

Using labtools, you can change the serial number and model number back to what it was originally very easily. Unfortunately they operate as only text fields and do not affect the operation of the radio and how the codeplug is read from it. (One could put their name and phone number into those fields so if your radio is stolen and ends up in a legit shop, it would raise some flags and get your radio back to you).

As for your situation, there's not much you can do unless you can find a stored codeplug that lab will recognize. I'll see if I have anything.

What Elroy was mentioning is using the Archive function from lab. But it only reads files of S-record, binary or archive (unencrypted). The newer versions of rss encrypt their archives which makes them incompatible.

Try this: Take your radio, hook it up, and using lab, read/write without pack/unpack.

It WILL tell you that the codeplug is too new. So what? Next, SAVE the codeplug as an archive or as S-records. It'll go in the software's main directory so remember where that is and what you named it. The software told you the codeplug's too new, it didn't tell you it tossed it out!

If you can save it, you can also write it into a radio with that RSS.

The rest is an exercise for the user. Try it, you might like it.

Whether or not the radio's codeplug (normal type) on disk is encrypted doesn't matter. You're not reading that one, you're reading just the radio itself, or an archive. Owing to the limitations of the radio's firmware, it CAN'T be encrypted if it's going straight to the radio.

So go have fun with it for a while.

I am using MTSX LAB Depot ,i can change the serial number but can't find where to change tohe model number?
I think if i can change the model number back,it might let me program the cp back in.
