HSN1000A spkr question

A week ago I picked up a Jedi MTVA which uses a HSN1000A amplified spkr. I have to set the rx volume to full, but I feel it should be louder. My AVA amplified spkr is much louder, & even an unamplified spkr plugged into my Spectra is much louder. Also, when it was 44 degrees here in Florida yesterday morning, the speaker sounded like crap until it got warmer outside. Should this speaker be louder, & should I look for another speaker? Gary - we have been using the HSN1006A in all of our installs so i can not comment on the HSN1000A,
but i was told they are very similar.

Some audio processing is also done in the control unit. If you have a spare you may want to try swapping
that also as it may not be the HSN1000A.

As a last resort try swapping the cradle unit - i know we sometimes had connection problems with them.

Gary,

Just by pure chance I have a W/D for the 1000A amplified speaker.

The board, HLN4559A, shows a 500-ohm variable pot which controls
the signal imput level to the U1 processor. It's located at the top left
of the board on the component side. See if this is causing the problem.

Thanks for the info. The 1006 replaced the 1000. I will have a spare control unit & cradle next week which I will try. I also noticed the pot in the spkr & will try that too. But my question is on a properly working MTVA, is the spkr supposed to be brutally loud like my other M radios? GARY N4KVE

I don't know if it will be as loud as another one of your radios but yes it should be pretty darn loud.

Well, I turned the pot in the speaker to the right to increase the volume, but there was no change, so I turned the pot to the left which would normally reduce the volume, & guess what? It got louder. But where the wiring goes into the plug on the speaker is sort of messed up, so I'll try to find another speaker. Again, thanks for the help. GARY N4KVE

Gary,

The 1000A is only rated at 6 watts, so it's not going to be an ear blaster like the amp'ed speaker on
the Saber SVA which is, I believe, 12 watts.

Thanks Tom. I just opened up a Saber SVA amplified speaker & compared it to the Jedi MTVA amplified spkr. Big difference. Lots more parts on the circuit board of the Saber speaker. GARY N4KVE
