Here's a shot of my CDM install in a Volvo Haul Truck.
The 24/12 coverter is mounted under the dash, near the radio.
I removed a faux panel and placed the radio inside, since there was already an FM stereo console in the headliner, it made sense, and keeps the mic close, as well as easy to see when operating the vehicle.

How did you secure the radio?

The area seen, is, or was a faux panel that has a steel shell which is designed for a stereo, or whatever is chosen for that vehicle, all I had to do was become a ccontortionist to get the thumbscrews into the CDM.
