Q: is a 40 watt r1225 (M44.....) radio basically the same as a 10 watt r1225 (M04.....) but with a different PA ? If so, is it possible/advisable to have the M04... upgraded by my local shop using an HLE3013a ? Thanks for your feedback. John.

Just for fun, I had in the past installed the 40-watt P.A. onto a low-power chassis and it successfully turned it into a 40-watt unit. I didn't try going into the alignment screens to see if I could make adjustments, but it worked fine as it was.

Right. All you have to do is the replacement section in the RSS for the power amplifier. That sets the drive levels for the correct power output across the band.

I swapped in a GM300 PA as the 1225 units kept burning out. Never touched the programming at all and still has 40 watts tx after 5 years.
