can you ues a usb to rib box for radio progamming

hi i have a laptop i want to ues to progame my astro saber i have the last cps ro5.3. now can i ues a usp port on my laptop i can get the usb cable to thr rib box. will that work for me or do i need the old PC serial port. to the rib box thanks for the help

If you are using a USB to serial, I have used them, but the RIB sometimes dont like the USB to serial converters. Make sure you make backups. I dont know if moto makes a usb to rib cable, but if they do, Im sure it will work.

rule of thumb, if the factory don't make a usb cable then don't rig an adaptor up. your radio is probablly worth more working and usb adaptors are not reliable, just use an older machine with a real serial port and be safe

I use a USB to Serial adapter with my RIB on all CPS software without any problems.

it work with a mcs 2000 with the mcs cps just fine. it nice not to have to find a old laptop to work in mobiles in the cars

yes you can try to use it and you might find it works well. But theres always the risk of corrupting data.

The trick with USB-Serial converters is get one with a decent chipset; the ones made by ATEN work awesome.

I have used a usb to serial adapter with rib for programming most radio euipment without issue, other than some software not recognizing beyond com2 so you may have to reorganize your port numbers for some of the older software.
