W7 Ignition sense defeat

I know, drag out the dead horse...but my issue is a little different.
According to the rear accessory connector diagram for the spectra ( http://www.batlabs.com/images/lmda457.gif ) , it mentions "4"- "Functional only in dash mount configuration, N.C. in remote mount configuration"
I have a older mid-power VHF Spectra W5 with a remote mount and it works fine without that ignition wire.
I just received two mid-power VHF ASTRO W7's that are dash mounts and require +12V on pin 5 to power up.
I have checked here and repeater builder that describe the jumper settings to disable the ignition sense. The two W7's I have, HAVE the jumpers set to ignore the ignition sense and should power up, but they don't without that darn +12V on pin 5.
*IF* a remote mount configuration bypasses the use of the ignition sense as referenced above, is there a way to 'trick' the radio into thinking it has a remote head on it when it doesn't??
