MT1000 - front panel is not flush with top panel

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I have just acquired a 99 channel low band MT1000.

At the top of the radio there is a small gap running between the front and the top panel (maybe 1/16 inch). If you push on the front, you can close the gap but it then just moves out again. Its like something needs to be tightened up.

Indeed, one of the back screws is missing BUT the other screw has no effect on tightening up the front panel - although you can fully tighten the screw. With one screw, you would expect one side of the front panel to close up against the top - but it does not.

Maybe the two supports holding the screw threads which feed thru to the back screws are cracked off? So you can tighten the screw but it does not tighten up the front of the radio.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

That would be my answer. With the newer glues, like JB weld for plastic, would be a good option.

You need to open it and take a look. Front is held on by the 2 screws you mention plus the 2 small one's on the bottom. It's been a while , I think the 2 larger screws on the bottom need loosening a couple turns also (these hold the radios mainframe to the bottom plate but don't need removal to get the front off. As you pull the front off go easy as theres a flex attached to the front cover that unplugs from the mainboard.
