XTS2500 - Dim backlight and non-working Tx/Rx LED (part 2)

Post by MotoFAN »

Original topic is closed, but problem is not solved.

I do have ex. mil radio which has been officially maintained by MSS. Not it do have XTS2500 sticker on the front, 'civil' FLASHport code (there is no FPP, no Tactical features & etc.) and R15 firmware.

But top LED still appears to be a non-functional and backlight is extremely dim.

As this radio now have generic flashcode, generic firmware, generic codeplug & etc., I may draw a conclusion that problem is not related with feature set, firmware & other software things. All looks like hardware limitation.

Anybody can confirm or provide more info about?

As far as I'm aware, the military/tactical stuff requires physically different hardware...

In that's case main PCB should have different P/N. Correct?

I just got two XTS2500 Model III UHF R1 with no led Tx/Rx and very dim back light.Ex Mil Surplus.

Q806: ASTRO IMBE Digital Operation
Q52: Federal Government FPP
H869: Hardware Multikey Encryption
H35: Conventional Systems Operation
H02: Encrypted Tactical Inhibit
Q53: FCC FPP And Radio Cloning

KG-1 AES-256 encryption

Yes.Flash code matches the tag.Radio is fully tagged with Motorola model no/serial no, original Model III.Not a Model I or II that has been upgraded.

I took off the front housing and checked on the pcb board where the led should be on the main board and it was missing. Both radio's main board was the same way.No led that should be there for the Tx/Rx.

The backlight works great and bright when I put on a new M-3 housing assembly.

Your radio may not have the led on the main board as well??

So you are saying that by changing the display will fix the dim backlighting issue?

I changed out the lcd to no effect.I changed out the ribbon cable that goes to the keyboard assembly.Same dim backlight.

Only thing I have not changed out is the keyboard assembly.

I bet if you did change out the keyboard assembly, the backlight will be bright like it should be?Not 100% sure.

The missing led diode for Tx/Rx light on the main board,I will be getting soldered on the boards of my two radios by a freind and talented fellow Bat Labber member as soon as the parts get in.The diode has been ordered from Moto.
