P25 on Trunking

hey guys, I'm having trouble adding some P25 talkgroups to my radio. I can listen to analog just fine and everything seems to be working, but for some reason, the digital talkgroups' audio will not come over. All I hear is the digital noise. Am I possibly missing something? The NAC, connect tone, etc seems to be all set, but I'm guessing something's not checked. This happened to me once before with another radio when I went on a trip down south. I guess I'm just not good at programming radios

I'm using Astro Portable (latest v) for the AS and XTS3k. Can anyone give me a quick rundown of what to enable? Maybe I just forgot to check something. and before anyone asks, I use this radio at my job, and I have written authorization to do so. I've been using my own personal radio for three years now, but I just can't monitor our one stinkin' P25 talkgroup! If anyone could teach me something new I'd really appreciate it!

Let me see if I understand what your saying here. You say that your trying to use an Astro Portable to try and listen to a P25 system. Is this correct? If so, where are you getting the systems key in order to program the radio to be able to listen to the P25 system? The Motorola software will not even allow you to get into the trunking section of the programming without the systems key. There is no way you can change anything in the radio on a trunking system without the systems key.
My guess is that you also don't have the permission of the radio system manager to have a radio on his system. Unless you took out the entire transmitter section of that radio, it will send a signal on the trunking system as soon as you try to listen to it. Just pulling the PA section is not good enough.
Not trying to give you a hard time, but you should at least understand the ramifications of your actions. You would be much better off using a scanner to listen to any P25 system, rather than trying to set up a commercial radio that could cause you all sorts of legal troubles.

Hello sir, thank you for your input. But I believe you answered your own question when you said "you can't get on a system without a system key". I've been using my radio three years, as I said earlier. I know how a trunking radio works, I've just come across an issue that I am not too familiar with. I'm not 100 % savy on p25 trunking systems. If you could be a teacher, and teach me something new and tell me what I'm doing wrong, and why my radio is not receiving in digital audio, that'd be very appreciated. But if you're only going to yell at me for whatever reason, then obviously it's completely pointless for me to post a "question".

The OP's name is Steven Riddle (aka W3MOT). He was kicked off here and now that we have discovered yet another alias... he's been booted again. So... Jim you hit the nail on the head with this one.
I'm sure some google action will turn up why he was banned from here.
End of topic.
