XTS5000 / 2500 vs. APX

Being that the XTS5000's were first introduced in late 2002, and put out in 2003, one would just have to wonder if the new APX line would / is starting to "take over" for the XTS line. I would hope the XTS5K/2500 wouldn't be discontinued anytime soon, but with all this new technology out (and also VERY $$$ new "stuff"), one still has to wonder.
Any thoughts on the matter ? I know the XTS5K / 2500 's are without a doubt fantastic radios, but it also makes me wonder if Big M will give it the big ole' ax anytime soon (like withen this year).
Are any departments still ordering brand new XTS radios, or are most starting to go with the APX line ? With the cost of these new radios, I wouldn't be surprised if most just hung on to what they already have for budgetary reasons.

XTS 5000 and 2500 aren't going anywhere anytime soon
The current production Motorola P25 portables are the APX of course, XTS5000, XTS2500, and the XTS1500.
You've seen the cost of the APX so no, agencies are still ordering XTS except it isn't the flagship radio anymore

Ya, that is interesting. I just found it interesting that, for example, the Astro Saber was introduced around 1995, and was discontinued in December 2002. So, 9 years, and that was it for the AS. The XTS3000 was introduced in 1996, and cut not too long after the AS (don't remember the exact dates). The HT1550 wasn't around too long either (I know, comparing apples to oranges, but just using as an example) .
I guess my point is, being that the XTS5000 is already going on / around 8 years, one would figure it's End Of Life is coming up sooner rather than later.
It's good to know I might be wrong though

"...XTS5000's were first introduced in late 2002, and put out in 2003..."
They have been around longer than that.
I had one in 2001:
http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.p ... it=xts5000
Had some fun taking it to a couple of radio shops - "Could you add a couple of channels in my radio?"
It took a little while for them to realize it wasn't an XTS3000!

Other than having a longer service life than the XTS, there is no day to day advantage of a dual band enabled APX7000..unless:
-You need advanced data
-True used more-than-once a year dual band use
-TDMA
The XTS5000 will do everything else that an APX can.
If you are heavily invested in XTS accessories (which was a selling point for those who where upgrading from HT1000/MT2000/MTS2000 radios) your looking at all new batteries, speaker mics, audio accessories etc with the APX.
As an owner of a APX7000, I can attest to the superior audio quality at high volume..but other than that...the dual display model is just a nice touch that can almost be cumbersome to use. For those that heavily use the XTS menu, its quick and easy as everything is on the front of the radio. If using a dual display APX, you must remove it from the holster, flip it around and then change your settings. Although in effect your doing the same with a XTS, it just *seems* to be more of a chore to do it with the APX. I don't know why, but it does.
Somewhere someone posted the Moto road map. The APX at the time was the "high tier", XTS5000 Mid-high-tier, the 2500 Mid and the 1500 low.
