6 meter CDM1550 programming

Has anyone figured out how to move a 42-50 MHz CDM1550 up into the ham bands yet?
The Model Specific link on batlabs still points to modifying the GP300.EXE file which doesn't exist under the Professional CPS software.

Is there hope, or should I consider selling the CDM1550 and buying something that works where I need it to instead?

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff,

I've asked the question on here twice before, both times with no response to the thread. Just crickets.

Seems those with the ability to do 220 have never tried the low band, nor does anyone with the ability seem to be overly inspired. If you find a lead, let us know.

Well, so far, from some of the comments I've heard, the "band limits" aren't in the programming software. They are in the firmware and read from the radio.

So, either I need to patch (hex edit) the code plug as read, or go in and modify the firmware to read a different range for the band limits.

I'll have to poke around and see what I can come up with.

What's the TANAPA of your radio?

Yes, it can be done.

NO it is not just hacking or hex editing the codeplug/or the programming software, there are I believe some additional hardware updates that need to be done.

Yes, they exist, I've played with one.

NO, I have no idea exactly how it was converted.

Thankies, I'll keep everyone posted if I make any headway instead of turning it into a paperweight.

Well, SOMEBODY must know, if someone has actually seen one.

Apparently, its a deep dark secret, since not even are there any FOR SALE anywhere that anyone has modded.

I am tired of my X9000 also, and want something smaller and with zones.

Will ANYONE come forward and point people in the direction to go? Even if it is 'send your radio HERE, and this guy will do it'??

Surface mount - doesn't bother me.
Hex editing - Doesn't phase me.
Board rework - Not a problem.
Hackware - No problemo.

SURELY someone knows something?

Jeff

look at the ht1250 220 mod at the top of the programming page
there is a very detailed step by step
if you will post the TANAPA of the radio
that poster might be a big help as
he already asked for the TANAPA

Sorry, I think my mind slipped into park when I wasn't looking.

TANAPA: IMUB6002A
Version: R0.5.05.04

I have a 42-50 radio working on 6 meters.

So yes, it cane be done. I was concerned about sensitivity issues, but it is just as sensitive as my 706mk2g.

Just need to figure out where to place the head...console is damn full now

I am not wanting to hi jack the thread here, but the Syntor X9000 is a fine radio that has not had anything come along to match it. With the correct software software, it can do well over 128 channels. I currently have some 165 in mine. It can have multi PL available on all channels. I currently have all 32 PL tones in mine. It will go from the 10 meter band all the way to 54 MHz with no tuning. But you will have to work with the antenna system to do this. Plus it will do the 110 watts unlike the CDM. The only limit is the scan. You can only have a max of 64 channels, unless you replace the firmware to let it go to 128 channels.

Email me if you have any interest in keeping the Syntor X9000 and I will help you expand it's original limitations.

Yes this can be done!
I have CDM 750 programmed to 52.xx with 66 watt out and .2 receiver sens.
I use standard (Non hacked) CPS to program, 42-55 range.

It seemed ok using a mag mount, it seems just as sensitive as the 706. I'll be drilling hole number 7 Thursday, that should improve it even more.

He'll never ball-mount it. 8)

I've been using a Larsen NMO50 for the last few years. It rocks, even in band openings.

I now have everything I need to make a CDM go into the 6 meter band. Now all I need is time.

As far as the X9000 goes, yes it is a fine animal. I do not need any help making it into the ham bands, I wrote some of the software hacks for that radio.

You can do 210 alpha channels, 32 PL tones AND scan 128 channels with the firmware I have for this unit. I have sufficient current, I have two ball mount antennas with the Motorola wideband cable assemblies and the split co-phase harness that sets them up for two different band segments. What I DON'T have, is either the console space or a space in my Excursion to accomodate the greyhound chassis. Sad, too, since I have six of these sitting on the shelf.

Perhaps my summer project will be boxing these up and listing them in the for sale forum....

HAH I got this via bbm earlier

Just had to share it...

Is that anything like, "We suck. But we suck less than the others."?

FWIW the couple of 220 CDMs I've tried were extremely sensitive in the 222-225 band. With a PL tone set, un-mute set to Standard, and all the audio filtering/compression turned off they opened up at .13 and were full-quieting at .5, and even with the service monitor output sitting at idle on .07 they'd break open occasionally. Yes, I know low-band is a different animal but it's still worth mentioning.. although given the abundance of noise and garbage down on low I wonder if a teensy bit of attenuation might not be a bad thing. For that same reason I only use DC-grounded antennas.

I just programmed up my CDM1250 on 52.525 and the RX was down about 4dBm from what it was at 48Mhz.

Now I guess it's time to see about upgrading it to a CDM1550.

If you load a cdm1550 codeplug into it you will need to change the band limits in the 1550 codeplug also.

Ive done 750 to 1550 with no problem.

I too would like to mod up a code plug I have hacking/editing tools and experiance if someone can direct me in the right direction it would be apreciated.

no doubt many would love a step by step set of instructions.

I have a document that was translated from German on how to change the base band of the radio to change the bandsplits. If some one could tell me how to post it, your welcome to it. Maybe it should go into the model specific radios section.

Sorry for the bump, but I recently helped a friend with this.

The issue is the squelch is Auto-Moderated above 50 MHz as it has 7 tuning frequencies that stay the same if you only edit the codeplug band limits.

The normal frequencies are as follows for 42-50 MHZ

Code: Select all

These appear from 0x139 to 0x146 in order, and then repeat from 0x147 to 0x154
freq Hex value
41.985* 0x112D
42.225	0x1225
44.525	0x1329
46.125	0x1469
47.525	0x1581
48.125	0x15F9
50.125* 0x1789

from 0x1C9 to 0x1E2 with two bytes in between them
42.025 0x1135
42.225	0x1225
44.525	0x1329
46.125	0x1469
47.525	0x1581
48.125	0x15F9
49.950 0x1766
As I'm not sure if restricting the tuning range, or widening it up, I decided to shift the radio up 4 MHz to cover 46-54 MHz.
4Mhz is 0x320 so I added this to each hex value.

Code: Select all

freq Hex value
45.985*	0x144D
46.225	0x1545
48.525	0x1649
50.125	0x1789
51.525	0x18A1
52.125	0x1919
54.125*	0x1AA9

and
46.025	0x1455
46.225	0x1545
48.525	0x1649
50.125	0x1789
51.525	0x18A1
52.125	0x1919
53.950	0x1A86
There is an eight bit checksum for this tuning block from 0x000 to 0x2FF and it needs to be 0x5A. Edit the byte at 0x2FF to get this and then plug it back into the radio. Open it in tuner and you're good to go.

I've checked this same general method for the 200 MHz HT1250ls+ and it looks the same. I've not tested that.

I have a 255 Channel 46-54 MHz, blank serial number codeplug http://wiki.w9cr.net/images/9/92/6m_CDM ... DKD9AA2A.0. I've had a friend test this in his radio and it looks like it works in 2.02 tuner.

Feedback is always appreciated.
