Anyone know if this antenna was ever produced? I've never seen one, and wonder which band its for. I've only seen it in catalog pictures, almost looks like a waris "cone", but its not. Its got "dimpling" at the tip and base. Just curious.

The Visar has it's own VHF and UHF antennas. This seems to be due to the Visar having a different ground plane.

Been there; done that, got a tee shirt - less filling! I've used the funky Visar Antennas with XTS5000's with excellent results; if not superior results.

I have an old sales brochure for the Visar and it shows the 'dimpled' antenna's that the OP speaks of. Don't think they were ever produced. Visar's have a unique antenna to the model in VHF (work well on other Jedi's as well, a bit less profile but no dimples) UHF and 800/900 models use the same antenna's as the rest of the Jedi's (less the 800 or 900 elevated feed).

@Radiosouth, thanks- I wasn't sure, because I've never seen one, kinda figured.

I was just talking with Jim (N7MAQ) the other day about a dimpled 800mhz antenna. I had a bunch of dimpled 800mhz stubbys off of some Iden L3000 and R750 phones. Ended up using them on some 800mhz XTS3000s I sold.
An L3000 for exampe:

I have an 800 dimpled antenna that looks just like that, I thought it was aftermarket.

Mike,
Yep, those are the exact ones. Must've never been produced, as I have never seen one offered anywhere.
Thanks
John

By way of covering all the bases, the standard VHF Visar antenna was/is the best compromise SMA
antenna I've found. I used one for several years on an XTS5K; shorter, very, very flexible and as good
RF-wise as the longer, fat/ugly VHF antennas.

I'm using the Visar style antenna on my Jedi's as well, much more compact. They're very close to the larger antenna's, I spent a day doing A-B field testing for my agency before we adopted them as some of our guys were bending over the larger antenna's and coming up short. Very small difference amounting to a couple of S units in a few locations but I couldn't demonstrate any locations where one vs. the other made a difference of getting thru or not. Getting back to the question, it appears these antenna's with the dimples were only from the Visar sales brochure and never made it into production.
