RCH3000 Problem - Limited Functionality

Post by willbird287 »

I've got a RCH3000 connected direct to a MCS2000 Model 3. Currently, all I get is limited functionality from the RCH3000. The RCH will unmute and display the speaker icon and audio is present from the speakers, but that's it, it will not provide any control or display information.

I accidentally changed the radio type from MCS to ASTRO and at that point the RCH was showing display information (altho it was buggy sometimes cutting off letters) but still no control capabilities. When I changed radio type back to MCS, again there is no display information or control capabilities.

Anyone have any ideas as to what the issue is? Could this be related to firmware/programming issues on either the RCH or the MCS2000? Also - I'm in need of a manual for this RCH if anyone has one.

If you have a junction box (required as far as I know) between the MCS2000 and the RCH, there are jumpers you have to move from one side to the other. Should be marked on the board IIRC. One way Spectra... other way MCS.

Give that a shot.

I'm using the direct connection cable specified in the RCH3000 manual (part number is NLA from motorola). Ive built almost all my programming cables for cheaper radios (non ASTRO) so I doubt I built it wrong (not to mention I've had it checked). I'm wondering if there's a trick in programming somewhere either the RCH3000 or the MCS2000. Like I said-I've got connectivity and display when the RCH is set to ASTRO but only speaker audio when on MCS. No control in any mode.

The only other thing I can think of is either the diagram in the manual is missing some discrete component like a jumper/diode/resistor etc. I'm hoping someone might have the oem cable to ohm out or sell me.
