What is the best way to test a fleet of HT750 UHF radios before sending them into the field. Currently just doing a send and receive between the walkies but there still seems to be issues with radios (that have properly transmitted and received during test) when they get into the field. Is there someway to test the radios at the office that will guarantee they work in the field? Thanks for any help.

The most useful tool for testing these radios aside from a calibrated service monitor is the BNC antenna adapter. This will allow you to see how much power the radio is making, intermittent antenna connections, etc.

At minimum, you should be checking the following:

TX power output
TX Frequency Error
TX Deviation
TX Signaling Deviation
RX sensitivity

If you want to get more into it, you can check things like TX Spectral Purity, reference modulation, etc.

If you don't have a service monitor, it's kind of a necessary tool. You could probably get by with a signal generator and wattmeter at bare minimum, but that isn't going to show you deviation or frequency error.

What problems are they having? Simplex, repeater? Audio problems? Range problems?

The issues are most often problems with range and frequency but I am not in the field with the radios so it is difficult to tell. I have ordered an RF adapter for the HT750 to attach to a Model 43 Thruline Wattmeter (element 5WE 400-1000 MHZ and a load resistor 5W N(m) will this be sufficient for telling me if these radios are going to function properly in the field? What is a BNC antenna adapter? How much do they cost?

What equipment am I attaching to the HT750 with the BNC adapter to get testing information? I am assuming that a calibrated service monitor is a very expensive piece of equipment. The radios are not being used with a repeater. They are being used mainly on our film sets.

What are the users saying, what kind of work enviroment etc? There are is a lot of detail that needs to be given here for some over the internet diagnosing.
