Does anyone here happen to know what the average retail price of a 16 channel HT1000 was in it's period of production? I would also be curious to know when Motorola started and stopped producing them. Thanks.

I think they were around $800.00 list??That is what I remember what my Motorola dealer price book said around the late 1990's when I worked for a Motorola dealer.

Don't have exact dates, I have some as recent as 2004 manuf. and have a brochure from 1992 showing them. So at least a 12 year run.

Prices from 1998 reference:

VHF 2 ch. 917.00
VHF 16 ch. 1033.00

UHF 2 ch. 976.00
UHF 16 ch. 1091.00

The age old /\/\ adage: HT1000 "$1k", XTS2500 "$2.5k", XTS5000 "$5k", seems to work most of the time. I recall $1033 or so list from my last memories....

Yup, for a 16 channel UHF model, you're looking at just over a grand. They were discontinued around 2004 ish I beleive.
Shame, one of the best / better models Motorola has made (along with the MTS2000, MT2000, etc.).

I think we were buying them for $879 for VHF 16 freq with accessories on the state bid in 1998.

It's somewhat amazing to me that a portable radio with nary a screw to hold it together made such an impact within the radio world. Truly a marvel of design and engineering.

I have a BearComm Catalog from 1993, and a UHF 16 channel would set you back just shy of $1100
These were a great radio, at least by the DN revision, the earlier Jedi's had issues with the metal chassis breaking, antenna jacks coming loose, and noisy transmit from loose shields. But still a major advance, you can completely break one down with only a flat blade screwdriver to board level in about 2 minutes.

I remember back in 1998 or so, I bought a brand new MT2000 through Bearcom (a UHF model I). Cost about $1200, with original Motorola warranty of course, and a charger
No matter what happens, I vowed to keep at least ONE of my Jedi's.

It was. The JEDI series was, at the time, what the ASTRO25 (XTS 5000, etc.) is today.

I suppose it would somewhat work out as below.

Back then vs. now:

HT 1000 = XTS 1500 Model I (sans trunking) or PR 1500 / MT 1500 Model I

JT 1000 = XTS 2500 Model III FPP (sans trunking, obviously)

MTX B3 = XTS 1500 Model I (with trunking)

MTX B5 = XTS 2500 Model II (with trunking)

MTX B7 = XTS 2500 Model III (with trunking)

MT 2000 A4 = XTS 2500 Model II (sans trunking)

MT 2000 A7 = XTS 2500 Model III (sans trunking)

MTS 2000 W4 = XTS 2500 Model 1.5 (with trunking)

MTS 2000 W5 = XTS 5000 Model II (with trunking)

MTS 2000 W7 = XTS 5000 Model III (with trunking)

I know it doesn't exactly cross over like that, but you get the point.

Also, keep in mind, while the Jedi radios were considered high tier, the MTS2000's in particular were NOT orderable brand new via. most MSS's (UNLESS you were a government agency, public service agency, etc.) if an individual only wanted to order say, 3 or 4 for thier personal radios. Only HT1000's, MT2000's, and (I also beleive) the JT1000. For the MTS2000, you had to order in bulk quantity in order to get a brand new one. I guess because they considered the MTS2000 of a slightly higher tier radio (kinda like the Saber vs. Systems Saber) due to the fact that the MTS2000 can have encryption support, and the MT2000 did not.

That's what I've been told at least. I tried to order an MTS2000 brand new in the 90's, and was told from multiple Motorola Radio Shops that an individual can only order an HT1000, or MT2000 (or MCS2000), but not an MTS2000.

I thought that to be very strange.

I think the MTS2000 was kinda like the Saber at the time, not marketed towards the general public. Large Government/Public Safety orders was their target where cost was of little concern.

Well the overall major differences (I know there are some subtleties) between the MT 2000 and MTS 2000 are the fact that the MTS 2000 supports trunking (OBT included) and encryption, the MT 2000 does not (as stated above).

This would lead one to believe that the MTS 2000 was primarily geared towards trunking users, in which case if the person trying to place the order was not the "trunking system customer", why sell them a radio? This echoes RadioSouth's comment about the target audience for the MTS 2000 being government/public safety.

At least that's my feeling on it. These days, they are just about a dime a dozen.

And considering the SABER series, if it's not an ASTRO Saber, you can't hardly give them away.

JT 1000 was kind of a one-off of the HT 1000 / MT 2000 series. I think it was targeted primarily at wild-land firefighting and certain other government users. Though with a limitation of 16 channels, I'm not sure how useful it really was to the non-hobbyist.

I'm still trying to find DES-XL modules and carriers for my MTS 2000 and MCS 2000 radios. Talk about a rarity.

I have a 2 page list of every possible Jedi configuration with model # that could exist. I've had this list since the Jedi came out. Got it from a friend who worked in Plantation. The MTS radios were listed as radios that worked on "private radio systems". In other words government systems that only government employees had access to. The MTX8000's were listed as radios that were for "public radio systems". Fleetcall [now Nextel] used these. If a plumber, or electrician needed to have county wide coverage to contact his service men, he used these radios. Or anybody who wanted county wide coverage. There were some pretty strange radios on this list. 800 mhz conv only radios etc. So basically the MTS radios were not available to the public. GARY N4KVE

The paperwork is in my storage facility in Ft. Lauderdale. I go there a few times a year, & I was there 3 weeks ago. Next time I'm there I'll get it & contact you. GARY N4KVE
