Batboard

I recently acquired a used Jedi NTN1171A fast charger.

When I plug in the power supply, the red comes on very briefly with no battery attached. When I slot in a battery, there is NO LED illuminated. I've tried a known good battery and a completely flat battery. The completely flat battery voltage did increase to around 2-3 volts.

There is voltage across the pins. From left to right there are 4 pins (but pin 3 is just a gap) - pin 1 is +ve , pin 2 -ve and pin 4 -ve.

The voltage between pin 1 and 2 is 7.96v

The voltage between pin 1 and 4 fluctuates between around 4.5 to 10.5v.

I've not looked inside the charger but looking through the gaps in the case, there appears to be some small corrosion on one of the PCB solder pads - maybe from a leaking cap on the other side of the PCB?

Any thoughts on common faults with NTN1171A charger and possible fixes?

These are very similar to the GP300 charger.

See if cleaning the corrosion and dirt out of it helps. There is a five volt regulator that sometimes goes bad.

UPDATE: I opened the Jedi charger and found the following:

- the 3 charger pins are connected to the PCB by "resting" on 3 tinned pads - there was a "black" resistance build up where the pins touch the pads - I cleaned this up using contact cleaner and a sharp cutting knife.

- there was some corrosion around an smd resister and "thru pin" - I cleaned this up using contact cleaner (but thought I might need to resolder the thru pin but did not bother)

- one of the voltage regular heat sinks had become detached from a "pin" which is soldered to the main PCB - I think this pin is just to hold the heat sink in place (but I might be wrong???). I just pushed the heat sink back onto the pin (but thought I might need to solder it)

Anyway , I powered up the charger and it now seems to work!!!!

I think the main problem was the resistance build up on the charger pin pads...but maybe also the corrosion around the smd resisitor.

On a completely different note, my laptop has just detected a virus while I was typing this message. Its blocked the virus but says I will need to reboot my laptop to remove it...I've never seen a virus alert before while using the Batboard???

got a bad virus here once i clicked on a link that a user posted .. idont do that no more
