XTS2500 PTT button broken

Hi all,

Just bought a used XTS2500i and the PTT button has a crack in it. It's the plastic part, not the surface mount switch. It still works, but I'd like to replace it.

Does anybody have a part number for this? Is it something I can order from Motorola Online?

Thanks!

Kevin,

the part you are looking for is #7585959C01. It shows it to be $3.73. this is for the button. The plastic around the switches is #1385149D01 and is $4.83. I wasn't sure of the exact one you needed so here is both.

Thanks! I ordered both just in case.

I have the same issue with mine, except it is broken all the way through now. I couldn't figure out how to get the button out to replace it. Has anyone done this before?

There is a Motorola FSB for this issue, particularly with older XTS's.

In most cases, dealers have the buttons (and they got them free from Motorola). I have a pile of them at our shop, the process is fairly easy, and the only caveat to replacing one is making sure you got ALL of the old one out.

Thanks for the tip.

For the benefit of anyone else who experiences this problem, the FSB that com501 referenced above is FSB10278B. The document has very detailed instructions (including pictures) for replacing the PTT button. Like com501 said, the FSB indicates that you could get a 25 pack of replacement buttons for free by calling Motorola. Since the FSB expired in 2010, I guessing they won't do this anymore (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

It has been extended several times, due to the model/serial affected keeps popping up. Doesn't hurt to ask!

Well, the parts arrived, but I couldn't figure out how to release the plastic around the switches; it almost looks like it's molded to the case. By any chance is the XTS2500i a different beast? That's actually what I have, not a regular XTS2500.

Or perhaps I'm just doing something wrong...

You do not need to remove the plastic around the switches to replace the PTT button. The bezel that surrounds the PTT and the two side switches comes off, but the easiest way to do so is with the housing removed from the radio. Invariably, I manage to break 2-3 out of a dozen if they have to be removed.

Yes, it's the bezel I'm having trouble removing. However, I'm pretty sure I ordered the wrong parts. The buttons I received are oval-shaped while the side buttons on my radio are more square. Full model number of my radio is H46KDH9PW7BN.

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

FSB10278C has been updated again, today.

This is still an issue with radios and they keep extending it.

Thanks! My 25 (!) PTT buttons should arrive today. Hopefully these are the right ones for a 'BN' model radio.

Kevin,

You have a BN series radio with means the bezel is molded into the case. The PTT button pop's in and out with pressure applied in the proper locations. The part numbers you were provided earlier are for the older "AN" series cases which had a removable bezel and rubberized PTT button. If you can order them from FSB10278C (which was reissued a few days ago) you should try that. If not, you should probably call parts ID and tell them what you're looking for (800-814-0601 and i think it's 3 then 1). Make sure they know you have a BN style case.

Yes, I ordered the bag of 25 PTT buttons for the BN series XTS2500 and replacing the button worked fine this time.

Anybody want some extra PTT buttons? I have more than I need! PM me and I'll mail you some; no charge.
