MSF5000 Forward Power Alarm

Post by screech67 »

I am getting a 7 beep audible alarm on the local speaker which is suppose to be a forward power alarm. I looked through my MSF manual and all it lised for alarm codes was 1-4 beeps. I had to look here to find alarms 5-7. The manual states that 7 beeps is a reverse wildcard active in the muxbus. I can see a led lit next to that reverse wildcard location(rw7) on the test panel as well. I guess I am a bit confused but I would like to know what the forward power alarm is telling me. Is it sending more than the set power level or below? The green led "pa full" is lit indicating it's sending full power(according to the manual). This is a VHF low power(125w)repeater.

Thanks

What is the forward and reflected power?

Did you read the codeplug and re-shoot the radio?

Can you clear the LED on the test panel by programming?

Station is not connected yet using a dummy load to test. Did some more reading and found that it is a low forward power alarm. I am getting about 60 watts out. I placed a watt meter on the input side and get about 9 watts going into the amp. I also tried feeding the amp with an external rf source about 6 watts in and got about 50 watts out. So it appears the IPA is working correctly and is feeding the pa more than it needs trying to compensate for the low output. Any simple tests I can do to check for a bad component in the pa? Reading over the manual it seems it may be beyond my ability/equipment.

Thanks
