I've fixed a few of these without having to open the radio. Corrupted codeplug repair is an integral part of the later versions of Professional Series CPS. Have you tried to do this without removing the battery, and was it successful?

If you're using R06.12.xx it works fine without removing the clock battery. The rechargeable LiIon coin cell only powers the clock when the normal battery is removed.
