I have a question for owners of the AXP7000 Model III.

So after the bright display light goes off,the display back light is dim but stays on.Is this normal for the back light to stay on?

I remember on the XTS5000 Model III,the display would be have no back light on.

Thanks in advance for any info.

The default is on but you can change it in each profile. Uncheck the permanent display or backlight (can't remember which it's called) tick box. Light comes on when you do any key functions and times out in about 10 seconds. In one of the default survelliance profiles, all lights are off as well as external audio muted.

This is the first change you should make in any APX codeplug. It really sucks the battery down quick if you leave it in the default state.

My experience leads me to think that the APX is a power hog in any configuration, but somewhat less
with the LCD big display dimmed down. (We need someone to come up with a
large capacity battery at a decent price, despite the size of such a battery.)

Also checking on the independant top display is a good thing. This way when you change a channel etc, the backlight for the large display will stay off, and just light the top display. The large display will not come on unless you hit a keypad button.

FYI New 4100MAH Li-Ion battery coming soon, same size as the 2200MAH one. It's perfect!

There's already a 4Ah+ LiIon battery available for APX, but it's significantly longer than the ~2.5Ah models. I'm not exactly sure how they're going to get that much energy density into the same physical size...

The label says 4100mAH, 30.4Wh, but has a part number that disagrees with that spec. Odd.....

Unless they used one of the more exotic LiIon formulations (not likely - way too expensive), there's no way they shoehorned 4Ah into the same space as a 2.2Ah pack. I'd suspect the labels are screwed up... the 2.2Ah should extend about 3/4" beyond the bottom of the radio, where the 4Ah extends 3-4" and makes the radio unbearably long.

The stubby Li-Ion battery for the APX is rated at 2900mAh

For whatever reason, there are about a dozen batteries for the APX. From what should be the current accessory list:
NNTN7033 - 4.1Ah IP67 FM
NNTN7034 - 4.2Ah IP67

NNTN7038 - 2.5Ah IP67
NNTN8092 - 2.3Ah IS

PMNN4403 - 2.15Ah IP67 (slim)
