Batboard

I Purchased a UHF R Split XTS3000 Model III on Eslay and I was told that DES encryption board was installed.
Would I be able to tell if the DES board is installed VIA CPS instead of taking apart the radio? If So, where in the CPS could I find out?

Just enable 'secure hardware' in the CPS under the secure settings & write it to the radio...if it powers up with "error 09/10" then it doesn't have the encryption module in it. If it powers up fine, then you can assume the board is installed, and you can put the radio into test mode to see what algorithms are contained in the module.

Umm, yeah, that's what I said to do. But, wanted to make sure 'secure hardware' was checked off in CPS, otherwise, you don't see the algorithms in service mode.

I enabled secure hardware in CPS. Turned on the radio and got a "KEY FAILED" message, but when I went into service mode, I saw DES XL and DES OTB (??).
So I assume the board is installed. I'm never going to use it, But If I were to ever sell it, I could be accurate in my description.

DES-OFB is valuable, but the old DES/DES-XL/DVP/DVI stuff is going to be useless for Part 90 services after narrowbanding in 2013. DES-OFB is fine for P25, which is narrowband compliant. The older encryption modes use 20K0F1E emissions (CVSD)that aren't narrowband compliant. Decrypted P25 voice is much cleaner than the old fuzzy/muffled CVSD stuff anyway.
