VHF 4 Bay Dipole help

Hi all, I have recently been given a VHF 4 bay dipole that had been replaced by a company in town. I've not had a chance to see if there are any company names on it yet but this is the type you see on alot of towers/ water tanks for repeater operation. Its unidirectional. Now I'm just starting to learn the antenna technical aspect of the hobby so I was wondering if there is a way to test this thing as I have no idea why it would have been removed from service unless broke. It appears good condition except where they cut the coax about two foot down to replace it. I would have thought there would have been a Connection there but I don't know. So ill have to get another connector on there and what's the best way to test it without fancy equipment besides the obvious hooking it up and seeing if it will receive? Also What is the used market like for these things? Its oh about 20 ft long and I have no idea how I would ship it but I have no use for it as all my stuff is uhf. What's a typical price for a used one?
Thanks for all the help
