My question is simple, but probably 'newbish' (bare with me, I'm still learning about radio's and all their capabilities.)
I have a Motorola XTS5000 Model 1 VHF radio, and my question pertains to getting Channel Announcement added on it. I understand that on later versions channel announcement comes standard with it. With this information, what is the standard charge for this, and who would be best adept to handling such an upgrade? My local radio shop is a little confused and they're still looking into it, but I don't expect an answer soon.

standard HOST/DSP refresh should take care of it. IIRC channel announce came in either HOST 7 or 9, it's been out for a while. All you would need is a firmware refresh and it should take care of that, along with other enhancements, like great vocoder improvements. If you're 5K has anything less than 9 it's pretty old.prfd218 wrote:My question is simple, but probably 'newbish' (bare with me, I'm still learning about radio's and all their capabilities.)

Awesome, is this something my local shop can take care of or would I have to send it to Motorola? Also, do you have even a slight guess on usual cost for these refresh's?

if they are an authorized MSS, they should be able to do a simple firmware upgrade in house. Usually takes around 10-15 minutes and going rate is anywhere from $50-$100prfd218 wrote:Awesome, is this something my local shop can take care of or would I have to send it to Motorola? The flash (refresh) firmware update is $75 (moto cost plus tax = 80 something) plus their shop time. If you knew what to do, then all you need is the flash key, the firmware on a CD or downloaded from MOL and of course the regular CPS program. If your a newbie, let them do it.
BTW, if your radio has Astro 25 (P25 CAI) in it and you don't have ADP encryption, the same upgrade for $75 will get you ADP encryption as well as the latest firmware. Anything you do to the firmware features gives you a refresh of the current software anyway! If the portable doesn't have P25 in it, then a firmware refresh with your current model type is what you need. (still $75)
