MTS 2000 Rebanding?
Excuse my ignorance, but I'm having a discussion with co-workers on the ability of an Mts 2000 (512mb) to be reflashed through either Lab or MTS CPS 2.00.01. They say the bands ,CC and failsafe info can be entered manually. I say you you need a flash or i-button for install. Can one of you M gurus clear this up for us? Thank-you for your time, Will

Search the forums for Toolproof which is an error that might lock up the radio if lab is attempted. Motorola sells the flashport upgrades and aren't a part of a RSS or CPS package.

While yes, the info can be entered manually the firmware must be upgraded for the radio to work on a rebanded trunking system. This is done with an i-button and standard cps or via depot cps. Unless you work for Motorola, you will need the i-button.
As far as all that about tool-proofing, that would only apply to depot/lab tools that were released before tool-proofing was enabled. Of course there are newer tools that can upgrade radios without tool-proofing them, they have just been better controlled.

Thank you very much for the info. Im trying to wrap my head around this. So in essence, if the Mts 2000 is read with CPS 1.0.0.1 and had the reband capable box checked , it has been flashed already? Sorry for being ignorant , but just trying to learn. Thanks, Will

It needs firmware version R08.70 or higher for it to be reband capable.

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Re: MTS 2000 Rebanding?
The box does not tell whether a radio is rebanding capable, various cps versions have treated it differently but the box must be checked and the radio must have capable firmware.
