XTL5000 05 control head contrast issue
I am having a bit of a problem with my XTL 5000 radios. The screen contrast is very dark and I can not find a way to adjust it through the CPS. does anybody have any insight to this problem. Can the contrast for the control head be adjusted or is this more likely a sign that my control heads need to be replaced. Any and all answers are very much appreciated. I am using 3 XTL5000 radios with 05 Control Heads attached to the units(not remote mounted). Again any help with this issue is welcome and very much appreciated
Re: XTL5000 05 control head contrast issue
I've seen this with an M5 XTL2500 VHF and it was hit and miss. One day it would be fine and the next day it would be really dark, then it would just fix itself while the radio was still on. Very weird.
Maybe if they have enough people complain, they can issue an FSB on it.

I don't think you can adjust the contrast. Some have mentioned a pot on the PCB inside the head but I've never seen it.

One vote for an FSB. I've got about five XTL5000s doing it out of a fleet of about 18. Anyone else?

+1 here... luckily the 05 in question is on a control base in a backroom...

Did you ever find a fix for that? I am experiencing the same thing.

You must be dreaming to think Motorola is going to listen to us peons with a small problem like this. Unless some huge customer slams tech service with a complaint, the chances of mother M listening is slim to none. The days of the company being responsive to minor issues has long since passed. Too bad, they use to have a decent product, till the management changed and the only thing they see is the dollar sign on new radio sales. Support became a thing of the past. Motorola doesn't care any more.dbusse wrote:beemare wrote:I've seen this with an M5 XTL2500 VHF and it was hit and miss. +5 for me too. That's 5 of these as control stations hooked to Motobridge. All are darker or worse than new or any of my XTL2500's are. I've been thinking of yanking a couple and shipping off to the depot since they are still under warranty and see what happens.....

Re: XTL5000 05 control head contrast issue
I am noticing a tendency in some older 05s to be dark when viewing head on, but nice and bright from the upper
right hand side of the head. This is nice for the passenger, but kind of a drag for the driver.
What is odd is that there is a nice sharp well defined bright band around the edges of the display, but the majority
of the viewing area is dark, not blank or black, but decidedly darker.
Has anyone found a cause or an answer for this problem ? Talk of a contract adjustment pot do not seem to well founded.
Is there a chance the pressure in the way the LCD is mounted or perhaps a connector issue of some sort within the head ?
A parallel problem is the intermittent blanking of the display. It remains quite bright and clear, but there's not a character
to be seen. In some 05 heads this comes and goes on its own, but on others there seems to be a relationship to the tightening
of both the screws within the head and at times the two side screws which hold the head to the body of the XTL.
