Can anyone tell me what is going on?
I press the red emergency button on the motorola xts 5000, it gives me a big fat BOOP, instead of the series of beeps and boops it gives me with my other radios.
is this an issue, or does it just need to be programmed?

It looks like the button wasn't programmed for emergency and/or the emergency signalling system (MDC or ASTRO) wasn't set up properly.

The red button can be programmed for several different functions, but if it's unprogrammed you'll get the low-frequency "boop" when you press it. My preference is to use it for Nuisance Delete because it saves you having to fumble for the correct side button when you need to do the ND function when scanning. Look at the radio-wide settings in your CPS under buttons to see how your emergency button is set up.

I dont quite understand, what is the nuisance delete feature?

If your radio is scanning, & stuck on a busy freq you don't want to listen to, you push the nuisance delete button, & that freq is temporarily removed from the scan list until the next time you push the scan button. I also use the red button for nuisance delete. GARY N4KVE

Yeah, it's too bad the Astro Sabers don't have the red button. LOL. GARY N4KVE

Its just black and part of the two position rocker switch. Just use some nail polish or a dab of paint to make it red/orange, lol.

Maybe the emergency button is programmed to transmit on a trunked system and, assuming you're not in range, maybe that's what is giving you the "Boop?"
I haven't dealt with radios that were programmed with trunked systems, so I may be completely off.

Just for the record I owned an Astro Saber for a week and a half before I found out this button existed.

I'm aware of that button, but I just don't like it. It doesn't seem to have any springiness to it [5 radios], & feels to me like it's going to be stuck in the down position. I have never programmed anything to that button. I use one of the side buttons for nuis del. But thanks for the tip. GARY N4KVE

Its supposed to have that different feel, travel and sort of a click/hold feel as opposed to the other buttons which are constant and smooth traveling, its called tactical feedback for the public safety user so that he or she knows that the correct button, Emergency in this case has been pressed.
I second Nuisance delete on all of my radios.
