MT1000 charger - ELN1042A - fast or slow??

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I have just acquired an MT1000 charger.

It looks like a standard sized fast charger - 8 x 5 x 3 inches in size but feels light. There are 3 charging pins with a gap for the 4th pin.

Is this a fast or slow charger?

There is a red LED on the front with the words "charging" but NO "complete" type wording. My MT1000 battery has been charging for about 1 hour..so far no green LED or any heat from battery.

Also, the fuse was missing...although it was sold as working :) There is no indication of fuse value. On the base of the charger is "F125/250v 5mm/20mm". Any idea what value fuse I should use. I'm current using a 5A fuse which is probably too high. Does F125 mean 125mA?

Thanks.

I'm sure the standard rate chargers have just one red LED, but I don't recognize the model number you posted. It may be a valid number, I just don't remember it. Maybe someone will pop in and give you the info you need on the standard charger. Seems I also remember they require 10-16 hours to charge at the standard rate, depending on battery capacity, so it's not likely you'll feel much heat. In reality, the standard rate chargers coupled with proper charging practices are much better for battery life.

For what it's worth, the single unit rapid chargers I have here are model NTN4633 followed by a revision letter. They have 4 pins, a red LED labeled "Charging", a green LED labeled "Complete", and the fuse size is 3/4A (0.75A), so 1/8A (0.125A) for the standard rate may be correct. The fuses are a slow-blow type, not the standard "fast-blow" type, IIRC.
curmudgeon.....and I like it.
