CDM1250 MDC Decode

I recently just purchased a CDM1250 and have been working on getting it programed.

I have programmed it to decode MDC1200 identifiers and display the alias of identifier on the display screen (in the call list, ID type is individual programmed to 0232. When the truck with that identifier transmits, it displays the alias on my radio as BROF ENG 232). This is the way I want things to work.

The problem I am running into is our City Fire Department is using MDC1200 (I believe sel-call or call alert... im not too sure????) for station alerting. We as dispatchers have to click on the unit on our centracom elite console which then activates a CDM1250 in the bunk room of the selected firehouse. What I want my radio to do, is like above; display an alias when it detects an MDC1200 signal so I know who is getting the call before the call is dispatched.

Is this possible? I have a feeling that it is not because we are using sel-call (I think) for station alerting; I figured it wouldn't hurt to check with you folks.

OK I understand how to do alot with the MDC system, let me try and understand exactly what you are asking,

you want to decode the PRIVATE ID of another radio when when that radio is being Call Alerted or Select called from a dispatch system? (that is what you are asking correct?)

kind of defeats the idea of a "private call" system dont you think?

Now all the required data is in the "data burst 'BUT' the internal firmware/software in the radio will not allow you do decode anothers radios private ID.

At least to my knowledge

That sounds like what I wanted to do. I agree it defeats the idea of a "private call" system.

It was worth asking. I learned something new today.

I appreciate your help.

are you shure it's not using qcII to alert the stations? if so, that radio can't do two signaling systems at the same time

An easier explanation is that the console isn't sending a unit ID packet, it's sending a call alert packet. Your CDM doesn't contain enough intelligence (purposefully) to strip the destination radio ID off a call alert packet and display it. The CDM only looks to display Unit ID packets, and I'm assuming probably emergency packets. Call alert and private call MDC packets are otherwise ignored by all radios other than the target.

Hope this helps.

Yea that makes sense and helps a lot. Thanks again.

And HLA, with all the different stations in the city here, QCII would take forever to dispatch all the tones on a full assignment.

There was an issue a few months ago of the companies not getting jobs on their digital pagers and in-house MDT system (which trips the house bells and lights). This was causing companies to miss calls at night. The solution was put a CDM1250 in the bunk room of each fire house and have it decode an MDC call alert. The ultimate goal is to have the CDM trip the lights and bells in the fire house but current funding has put a halt to that.
