Additional Channels

Hi All
An XTL5000 that I purchased a while ago, has a 2000 channel capacity, when you read the radio config ->radio Wide-> General Tab it states that there is 2000 maximum channels. I have tried programming the full 2000 channels and it all works fine. Write/Read and testing TX on the XTL.
Im trying to do this mod to a friends XTL so he can use my codeplug, some 1500 Channels, excessive I know. Does anybody know how to Hex edit the codeplug or whatever needs to be done to achieve this?
So far I have been using artmoney which is a process hex editor, this allows me after much searching to change the channel amount in the CPS to say 2000 by replacing the value at a certain address. It actually then diplays 2000 in the general tab mentioned above. If I write the codeplug to the radio or save the radio it just goes back to the original amount(1000).
Just need some help with this one, or if anyone has a procedure or address where the channel maximum limits are stored that would be great.
Thanks in advance for any advise or assistance.
Thanks Again
Greg

Your playing with real danger in messing with the hex edit of the codeplug on that radio. That is a good way to brick the radio and have to end up sending it back to mother M.
My guess is that you have an old firmware version that is not allowing the full channel count to be obtained in that radio. I would suggest that you obtain a firmware update from Motorola to allow the radio to go to the full channel count.

Hi Jim
I already have the latest firmware and the full channel amount for the radios is 1000. Except for the other one of mine which has been modified at some stage to allow 2000.
Thanks for your info.

My sentiments as well. Leave it alone or get it reflashed. Perhaps there are some "challenges" that, upon reflection, you don't really need to get involved with.

No, the radio was modified, I'm pretty sure by whom. It's not a firmware big or feature it's definitely a modification.

But why not. Learning for yourself is what makes this a hobby.

It's all fun and games until you brick an XTL...

My guess is you are editing the area where it displays the total amount, but not the actual codeplug. Or you are editing it, and the cps is changing it back upon packing the codeplug.

I think your correct, its only editing what is displayed in the cps not the actual code plug. is it possible to edit the code plug in the radio without reading it with the CPS?
Any info greatly appreciated
Many thanks
Greg

You would have more luck trying the way you have been. In memory the codeplug would be most vulnerable.
