Batboard

I picked up this NOS-looking HT1000 R-split at a local hamfest a while back. It works great and programs fine. One of the things I noticed, however, is that there is a typo on the label... so did /\/\ actually make a mistake or is the label (and/or whole radio) a fake!?

Perhaps it's yet another reflection of our failing educational systems. At the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway near my place in Virginia is a large sign (been there for years) from the US Park Service that says, "No Comerical Vehicles." There's no reason why Motorola should be immune to such mistakes.

Looks fake, no mention where made and label looks different. Are the rounded corners hacked a bit ?
Along the line of Tom's observation I had a sign reading 'YEILD' on my old beat, took them almost 2 mos. to correct after I put a work order in.

@South, they are, but ever so slightly. The barcode label beneath the label is perfect, however...

Looking again the FCC # box is not centered and a couple of lines below don't seem margined correctly either. All of mine also have a DOC# and a Type (with four letters afterwards) as well. (Yeah, I know but I'm stuck in the house while it's pouring out and primetime hasn't started yet).

Thanks. OK, so at least the tag is fake. It has a valid serial number though - and if I run it in the warranty verification tool on MOL it comes back with the production date (1998) so I'm hoping it's just the label...

there were a ton of MTS2000 VHF radios on brokenstolenradios.com I mean Ebay, which had a white label and the model mis-spelled and in parenthesis. (MTS200 instead of MTS2000). They didn't look like the typical white tag, had a duller surface but were cut even, however the serial numbers matched what was inside as did the vintage of the controller and RF boards, so who knows where they came from.

Everyone missed the obvious. Look at the FCC approval #. It ends in 3768 which would be for a VHF Jedi, however the model # on the tag says RDC which is 403-470 UHF low split. What's up with that? GARY N4KVE

Fake sticker is fake

Agreed, it's a forgery. It's possible that some shop out there re-cased the radio and made a "best effort" stab at the label to please their customers. When we re-case, if the label won't transfer we just stick a P-touch label on it and call it done - no point in trying to get fancy about it.

I feel like d119's explanation is probably it - especially considering how well the radio actually works and looks - according to Mot this radio was made in 98, and it's just too clean to even have been a desk queen from that long ago...

Even the radios from the Depot have labels that are printed there, but are correct...
