Looking for a part number for a common old carbon mike that Motorla used. Need one to wire up for an older military set that uses carbon mikes. I understand that these older moto mikes have a better audio quality.
Thanks

Actually, what people use for that is the common Motrac-Mocom 70 mike which is dynamic with a preamp, and which functions as a carbon mike electrically. You just have to make sure that the carbon mic bias and polarity of the military radio match the Motorola mike you want to use. A typical number would be TMN6013, which from memory I believe uses about 3-4 Volts DC bias.
The older true carbon mikes were Shure CB-12's relabeled for Motorola, more or less, but the Motrac mike will sound better. The CB-12 will sound a lot better than a military T-17. But then almost anything sounds better than a T-17.
Edit: Typical Motrac mike = TMN6013

A lot of my old carbon mics sounded like crap. At the time, banging them on the dashboard was supposed to "loosen up" the carbon in the element. Go figure. I like the idea of using the dynamic mic instead. Tossed the last of my carbon mics with the T-43s 30 years ago.
