Astro Spectra W3 to W9

Hi,

I have two 110W Astro Spectra's (one VHF and one UHF) here that need to be converted from W3 heads to W9 heads. I see that they need a different interconnect board inside the radio. Would an interconnect from an A9 Analog Spectra work?

Also I need to understand the s-record writing process. I have a copy of MTSX Lab 2.0.1. So, do I need a W9 UHF S-record and a W9 VHF S-Record? or do I just need a W9 record from any band? I know I need to record the tuning values before flashing.

Thanks,
Eddie

The internconnect board from an A9 would work, however you lose the capability to do host/dsp upgrades since the KVL port on the radio doesn't route the all the pins required for it to work. I would get one for a W9. I may even have a few kicking around. I just used one to convert an Astro Spectra Plus from a W3 to W9. You may even find someone on the board that would do a even swap. Some guys really like the W3 and convert form W9 to W3.

Regarding the s-records. You will need one for each band, vhf and uhf. It must be the correct split within that band as well. Unless you record the tuning values and re-enter them after pushing the s-rec you will need to have the radio tuned. Probably a good idea to get it fine tuned anyway.

Your radio will also take on the serial # of the s-record you push into it as well.

Thanks for the reply.

Could the W9 interface board from a mid power radio be put into a high power radio?

Also, I keep finding tidbits of information on how to change the s-records. I have MTSX (3.0.2?) lab and Astro (portable) lab. Is there a good forum post or tutorial somewhere that I have not found?
Can an s-record be pulled from a codeplug, like from codeplugsupersite? Can I use a codeplug from a mid-power radio on a high power radio?

Thanks for the help,
Eddie

Mid and high power interconnect boards are not interchangeable. There is lots of info out there about doing s-records.
