Does such an item even exist ? I've done a google search, and I did find one unit for the XTS3500 but A - it was an aftermarket accessory, and B - I have no idea of the quality of said unit. I know there is a battery eliminator for the Jedi series that appears on "that auction site" every now and then, and then there is a TON of VERY cheap aftermarket battery eliminators for the XTS series as well. Does anyone have any experience with them ? Are they worth the $14 to get ? Seems that with it not being Motorola quality, they would not last very long.

Any ideas ? I just want something that I could plug into the AC outlet in the car without having to worry about the battery going dead after using the radio for long periods of time. I know Motorola makes a Travel Charger, but it's just that - a charger. The battery eliminator would work much better. Just take the battery off, and replace it with the AC car charger battery that goes into the AC outlet.

So, besides spending $100+ for a 4000+ MAH Motorola Li-Ion battery, what are my options ? lol

If it really has a Motorola part number on it, it isn't an aftermarket part. NTN8294 is the Motorola part number for the one that plugs into a DC outlet in a car, and yes, they're available on "the auction site" for as little as $14.95, though I believe MotherMoto's list price is about $80. I don't think the $400+ dollar item is what you're looking for. Just a question in my mind, but why does it need to be AC instead of DC? The AC outlet on my vehicle is in the rear by the lift gate where the inverter is located, so if your vehicle is like mine, the power cord will need to be lengthened to accomodate the distance, but you sure could use it in the house or office instead of draining batteries. I think I 'd be looking for the NTN8294 to use in the car and buy a small 5 amp or so power supply with a cigarette lighter receptacle for use in the house if that's the kind of thing you're after.

I had an aftermarket battery eliminator. It worked fine for what I used it for.

You are so right, NTN8294 is a battery. Now I realize the one I have in my hand is actually for a Jedi and cost about 80 bucks originally. Sorry. Brain fade. Anyway, the aftermarket units should be fine if you choose a reputable brand.

That is for the test set for bench testing. It has a box with it and the power comes straight out the back of the "battery." There is one on the auction site for $99.

I would've went for the travel charger (the one that lists for like $90), but I wanted something that you can both TX AND RX with while in the vehicle, without worrying about draining the radio's battery. The Battery Eliminator is a perfect solution.

Well, for those interested the battery eliminator for my 5000 just came in the mail today. It works great, and is VERY light (since there is no "battery", just the charging electronics in the shell). So, I can now use the 5K without the battery going dead
