Hi Guys
I need a little help with my LTR project so here is the basics;

I have 3 UHF Quantars that are version 16 that I want to make operate as a LTR trunk system. I am using 3 Zetron model 452 LTR controllers and I am using the Zetron supplied Quantar interface cable which interfaces to the Quantar via the system 50 pin telco connector. The wiring is as follows;

Pin 1 Line 1+ (4 wire audio)
Pin 5 AUX TX audio (Wild card programming, cold/warm reset AUXPL+TX ON)
Pin 7 Ground
Pin 17 Aux in 7 (Wild card programming, Input 7 Key from WL card/DeKey from WL card)
Pin 26 Line 1- (4 wire audio)
Pin 30 Aux RX audio (Wild card programming, cold/warm reset RXDSC-AUXRX ON)
Pin 32 Ground

The problem is the LTR data is rolled off for lack of a better term, it kind of looks like data that is applied to a phase modulated transmitter. Everything else works great but the data is crap, I know other have done this and Motorola even sold Quantars on Passport systems so there has to be a way I am just doing it wrong. Could I use the 6809 interface connector and feed the data in of of those 2 data ports (Data+ & Data-) if so how do I enable them? Could you use the simulcast function? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Let me as you this:

1. Do you have a Zetron interface guide or technical application note that goes along with the cable (if such a thing exists)?

2. Did you get this cable from Zetron, or build it? I'm assuming you got it from Zetron as you refer to it as "Zetron Supplied". If this is the case, why reinvent the wheel? Zetron's cable should work, one would hope they tested it when they engineered it.

3. Have you gone into the Quantar and tried playing with the settings dealing with pre-emphasis and de-emphasis, flat vs. filtered audio, etc? These can make a dramatic difference, and I again refer to question number 1, as hopefully Zetron has some sort of documentation as to what the programming needs to be audio-wise within the Quantar to make it work properly.

Thanks for trying to help but been there done that, I purchased the $180 cable from Zetron just to prevent ANY setup problems and I have followed the drawing you referenced to the letter but the fact remains the data is crap and the radio will not decode it. I have been talking with Zetron about the problem but the first thing any of their technicians say is (I have no real experience with the model 452). If you also notice the application not only lists the configuration on the Quantar and has no reference to the model 452 its self but it is fairly simple and I have played with the settings and even connected it to another repeater to verify proper operation. I do like your comment regarding "dealing with pre-emphasis and de-emphasis, flat vs. filtered audio" I do know where to enable or disable the emphasis but where can I set flat audio in the Quantar? I will give that a try, with all the Passport systems out there I know this has been done so I am missing something simple. Thanks so much for your comments and your help.

The Zetron technical reference states: "for proper operation the Quantar station software must be Release 10.4 or later".

No problem? - Problem!

The problem is that there is no Quantar Release 16. The current ship is Release 14.

The confusion comes from the way the station reports the version information. The middle digits are the significant ones. Thus a current ship station reports R020.14.046 which is release 14.

Way back when, fifteen years ago, before release 9, the station firmware reported numbers like 016.07.015 which would be Release 7 and 016.08.004 which was release 8. The prefix digits were changed to 020 at release 9.
