Lithium Battery on MT-1000

Hi Folks,
Just picked up a couple of MT-1000s, and the batteries that I have are in
really poor shape.
Not wanting to buy another Nicad or Ni-MH battery after using Li-Ions, I
was wondering if anyone has put some Li-ion cells in a battery housing.
Three cells will give 11.1 volts - even coming off the charger the voltage isn't
any higher than I've seen with the Nicads coming off the charger. So the
battery voltage will be a bit higher than the Nicad pack, but not that far off.
Obviously, I will have to modify the charger - I just finished a Li-ion design
for work, so could retrofit into the existing charger.
Just wondering if anybody has done this.
Thanks,
Tim
